WHAT ARE NBOMe’s?

NBOME is a family of psychedelic and euphoriant drugs that have no history of human use prior to 2010.
- Many of the NBOME family have been linked to a vast number of hospitalizations and deaths.
- The NBOME family comes in many varieties, including 25C-, 2C-B-, 2C-C-, 25I-, 25D-, 25E-, 2C-N-, 2C-G-, 2C-T-4-, and 2-MEO-.
- NBOME is commonly found in powder and liquid form, but is also sold on blotter paper, often misrepresented as ‘LSD’.

- NBOME is typically administered orally in either blotter, powder or liquid form.

WHAT ARE THE
EFFECTS OF NBOMe’s?

Effects and duration of most of the NBOME’s are similar to acid (LSD), although some users report effects that sound similar to the Empathogen/Entactogen drugs like MDMA.
- “Eye-candy” has been associated with NBOME’s strong visual and sensory effects.
- Positive effects include mental and physical stimulation, increase in sociability, increase in awareness and appreciation of music, and life-changing spiritual experiences.
- NBOME’s onset can come with nausea, which is common with some psychedelics.

Negative effects have been reported to include vasoconstriction (narrowing of blood vessels), increase in blood pressure, peripheral swelling, as well as unwanted life-changing spiritual experiences.
- At least 20 deaths have been reported from people taking an NBOME misrepresented as LSD. Although it is still not entirely clear what the pharmacological cause of death is, the general consensus is that higher doses of some of the NBOME drugs cause multiple organ system failure.

A typical oral dose of NBOME is extremely low ranging 500 micrograms to 3 mg.
- Misjudging the dose of NBOME series caries extreme risks, including death. Although an accurate sub-milligram scale can help with determining an accurate dose, with an NBOME substance on blotter there is no way to measure dosage.

NBOMEs have been falsely sold as LSD and MDMA (ecstasy), which has resulted in overdose and death.
- One potential way to tentatively test if a blotter contains LSD or NBOME is by taste. Tasteless or metallic flavor is associated with LSD blotter in contrast to a bitter taste associated with most (but not all) NBOME blotter.

Although the ehrlichs test reacts with LSD, there are reports of dealers adding non-psychoactive indoles to NBOME blotter to cause a ‘false’ reaction with the ehrlichs.
- Reagent testing can differentiate LSD from 25i-NBOME, via the marquis and mecke tests.
